Wayv – A smart health connected and secure bicycle lighting system
Thanks to advances in LED and Bluetooth technology, we have recently seen the emergence of a large number of smart health connected lighting products for bikes. The Wayv system, from a British start-up of the same name, brings very interesting new features.
200 LEDs inside Wayv
Comprising a total of more than 200 LEDs, Wayv is composed of three waterproof components; an adjustable harness that fits over a backpack or jacket, a helmet unit that attaches to the rear air vents on most helmets, and a wireless system mounted on the handlebars.
Both the harness and the helmet have a large red X in the middle, which serves as a rear light, not to mention the orange indicators. The harness also has a set of indicators on the front.
A remote control to activate the turn signals
The remote control is used to activate the turn signals. Unlike other systems, Wayv does not use push buttons. Instead, users lift the thumb lever up or down to indicate a left or right turn; then return it to its neutral central position to turn off the indicators.
According to the system designers, the design of the remote control lever allows users to operate the device without removing their hand from the handlebar grip. It's also a bit like auto indicator controls; that people are used to when they drive their cars. It should be noted that there is no brake light function; unlike some other systems.
Wayv also has a dedicated application
However, there is indeed a dedicated application. It allows users to synchronize the system first, then activate or deactivate the harness or helmet; as well as adjust the brightness, switch from fixed mode to flashing mode and check the battery level.
As for batteries, a USB charge should be enough for five days of use (30 minutes per day); one week of use for the headset and two weeks for the remote control. If you want to pre-order your Wayv, go to Kickstarter. Prices start from $ 98.
