A necklace that spoils your eating habits

The Wearsens is a smart health connected necklace, created by the UCLA (University of California) which analyzes everything going through your throat using piezoelectric sensors. Everything you eat emits unique vibrations and it’s these vibrations that the Wearsens will analyze to determine what you eat and in what quantities. This necklace is 90% accurate and can tell if you are swallowing liquid, solid and if it is cold or hot. To adapt the necklace to its user, the latter will have to eat a sandwich of a very precise length and a drink of a very precise quantity. It is indeed necessary to identify the unique vibrations of the throat of each individual to personalize the necklace.

Using the application, you define your goals to keep (foods to ban, smaller portions …) and if you do not respect them, you will receive a vibration to remind you to order. For the Wearsens team, the goal is to make people aware of what they eat and how much. They started from the observation that tracking down even the calories or the quantities is too tedious and nobody is too long if there is not a great motivation. This is why the Wearsens was invented, to do this work for the user, much like the TellSpec. Wearsens can also warn you if you forgot to eat (it happens to be busy!) Or if you are dehydrated.

More serious ideas

Apart from these food monitoring, the team hopes to be able to detect rejection of an organ from the body well before the patient realizes it. And if you ever want to quit smoking or need treatment, Wearsens will manage these habits and alert you if you are not following the right path.
