Weight Watchers buys the Hot5 fitness app

Weight Watchers diet specialist has announced a new mobile app acquisition. After buying Wello last year, it’s now Hot5’s turn to lead the giant. If the amount of the transaction was not disclosed, we only know that the application would have 400,000 downloads and "tens of thousands of monthly active users".

Hot5 is an application only on iOS that provides its users with dozens of 5-minute videos of fitness advice.. The app is free at first, but you will have to pay later to unlock more videos. This is, of course, reminiscent of the recent acquisition of the FitStar app by Fitbit, a fitness app that is also ehealth-based but has an even larger audience.

Weight Watchers wants to develop its fitness ecosystem to give its customers the possibility of recovering data from several health applications. The brand had already announced last year that it could retrieve data from Fitbit and Jawbone smart health connected wristbands directly on its application.
