The German Medical Association has redefined the model occupational code for doctors and supplemented it with specific scenarios. These describe the types of telemedicine which are permitted and which are not.

The term remote treatment ban will therefore no longer exist. That explains Dr. Franz Bartmann – responsible for telemedicine on the board of the German Medical Association – in one interview, Teleconsultations between doctors – for example, when a doctor uses telemedicine to seek advice from a specialist colleague on a specific case – are fully permitted. Telemonitoring is also permitted. However, there is one condition: the patient's doctor must always be involved. For example, a telemedicine center cannot work diagnostically or therapeutically for a patient without consulting the doctor in charge. According to this, doctors are only allowed to give medical advice to "unknown" patients in general in general by telephone, internet, etc.

Teleradiology regulated by X-ray regulationTeleradiology can also be carried out without direct patient contact. This is regulated by law in the Roentgen Ordinance (RöV) and requires approval. The term "teleradiology" is defined as an examination of a person with X-rays under the responsibility of a doctor who is not at the site of the technical implementation. This doctor is directly smart health connected to the people on site by means of electronic data transmission and telecommunications. This rule does not apply to emergencies and incidents such as those on the high seas.
