The Healthcare Data Institute is the first international think tank dedicated to Big Data in the health sector. The Healthcare Data Institute was launched by different players in the Big Data ecosystem: government and regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical companies, medical figures, start-ups and insurance companies.

On the occasion of the 5th edition of HDI Day, the Healthcare Data Institute published a white paper presenting the results of work carried out within a working group co-chaired by Ségolène Perin, director of innovation at Elsan, and Patrick Olivier, director general of Ivbar France: “Health data, what value for healthcare establishments?”.

During this study, the authors interviewed caregivers, patient associations, hospital executives, publishers and Asip Santé.

  • adapting the care offer

  • improving internal efficiency

Recommendations for healthcare establishments

The Healthcare Data Institute has issued several recommendations to support healthcare establishments in the proper use and management of health data.

Health professionals play a leading role on this subject of health data. HDI therefore recommends “healthcare establishments to implement a collaborative approach facilitating access for healthcare professionals to relevant, actionable and ergonomically rendered indicators. "

It is also necessary to facilitate the understanding of regulatory aspects and to avoid actors imposing limits on themselves. HDI “proposes to collaborate with representatives of health professionals in the development of a practical guide facilitating the taking into account of regulatory and technical aspects for the constitution of registers (or other data sets) reporting on medical practices. "

In terms of patient engagement, HDI “encourages healthcare facilities to inform patients via their website of ongoing studies reusing data as part of an MR-004. Secondly, this same site could be used to inform patients of the published results of the studies listed.. "
