The use of bicycles has become very popular in the city. It is an economical, ecological means of transport and in addition it avoids traffic jams during peak hours. The bicycle is a means of transport which has a future and which is becoming more and more high tech thanks to companies which develop solutions facilitating its use but also taking into account the safety factor. This is the case for the Nantes start-up Velco, which designed the Wink smart health connected handlebar, which is supposed to meet the needs of urban cyclists.

Technology can be found in all sectors, the transport sector having been particularly buoyant lately with the autonomous driving systems being developed by big names in technology and the automobile. But even the most modest means of transport such as the bicycle also interest engineers, proof of this is with the Samsung SmartBike. Velco, a Nantes-based start-up created by three business and engineering school students, designed Wink, a smart health connected handlebar that will be able to adapt to all types of bikes. This new kind of accessory will make it easier for cyclists to find their way around, find their bikes in the event of theft and also ride safely at the sight of motorists.

Wink, the intelligent handlebar that shows you your way

Velco has equipped Wink, its smart health connected handlebars, with several features which should meet the needs of all cyclists. First orientation. Right now, smartphones are generally equipped with GPS, so we can use them to find our way more easily. However, taking the device out of your pocket while pedaling is a perilous and dangerous operation. Via a dedicated application, the cyclist will be able to enter his destination before climbing on his bike and let the handlebars do the rest. The latter is equipped with lights that will show him the way by flashing on one side or the other when it has to turn. " You enter your destination via an application on your smartphone and the handlebars do the rest. As soon as you have to turn, it turns on or flashes a light block to the right or left. Just follow the indications until arrival Said Johnny Smith, one of the three students behind the smart health connected handlebars.

The other major concern of bicycle fans is to see and be seen at night. In the city the lighting is generally sufficient so that one can see one's way and be seen by motorists, but when one leaves it is another story. Wink has integrated lighting, made up of 6 LEDs providing quality lighting, day and night.

Integrated plotter in case of theft

Theft of bikes is unfortunately common in the city, there are also various solutions in development such as the Connect Cycles pedal. Velco also imagined a solution in incorporating an alarm that will sound when someone tries to move the bicycle. The small Nantes company has gone even further by equipping the smart health connected handlebars a plotter that will allow its owner to track his bike using the app. He will be able to find him and ask for help from the police if necessary, Velco having entered into a partnership with them.

The Wink smart health connected handlebar is currently in production. It should be sold for less than 200 euros. it is possible to pre-order it through the Velco website.
