When it comes to sports headphones with sensors, Jabra is no stranger to it. This time, we are testing the Sport Coach version, specially dedicated to cross training. Is this new model up to the expectations of athletes? Answer in this Review.
Brand: Jabra
Tested with an iPhone 4s
unboxing
Jabra Sport Coach is offered in a cardboard box blue, red or yellow depending on the model chosen, in which the headphones are presented with a pair already fitted with plastic caps and shells. Below a small case regroups the other sizes as well as the device’s charger. A precaution already used on the other model, which guarantees the safety of caps and shells which are mine of nothing. There at least, there is no risk of losing them. Whether at level of packaging and accessories supplied with headphones, nothing to say, Jabra gets it right.
Design & Ergonomics
Depending on the model chosen, the headphones are blue / red / yellow and gray with a USB charging port on the right side, well protected under the hull protection. They are certainly quite large, but once again the brand makes it a point of honor to recall theimportance of the good behavior of the device during a sports training and then very frankly, once put, we do not notice them that much. As on the principle of Sport Pulse, the headphone cord goes behind the head so as not to hinder movement.
Of right side, there is the ignition and sound control button, to increase and decrease it. Application control, including the pause button, is located on the back of the left earcup and gives a little secret agent side on mission when you press it to pause training. The first blow is a bit of a pain to put on the device, but do not panic, the hand is taken very quickly. Once in place, we can move in all directions like a lost, nothing moves provided you choose your caps and shells carefully. They are very comfortable to wear and offer good freedom of movement.
Application
Simple, precise, practical. In addition to having a nice design, the application is very easy to use and reliable. No crash in the middle of a session. Little more than Pulse, all the exercises available (and there are many) are detailed in French in order to best explain the posture to take so that the training pays off and the user does not get hurt.
It is possible to easily create your own trainings in copy– pasting a basic program and adding / removing exercises. When we run or walk outdoors, the Trackfit motion sensor allows you to precisely view the route taken on a map.
Use and handling
No risk of lacking sports inspiration between walking, cross-training, cycling, running (on foot and on carpet), hiking, skateboarding, skiing and all personal training to make yourself. Each end of training ends with a short debrief gathering the duration, the distance traveled, the average pace and the calories burned. Then comes the share button on social networks with the possibility of adding a photo, a map of the distance covered where you can see the number of breaks taken and a detailed analysis button.
This one refers to several graphs illustrating the results obtained, practical for farting yourself … or not in front of your friends. By cons we deplore an absent: heart rate. Sport Coach completely obscures the cardio aspect of his headphones, focusing only on cross training, damage …
Since the purpose of wearing wireless headphones smart health connected via Bluetooth is precisely not to nothing to interfere with training, the phone is only useful for selecting a workout and possibly viewing the exercise details. The button on the left side is very practical since a press pauses the session. In terms of voice, we appreciate hearing a little French in the hollow of our ears, the Pulse version giving instructions and directions in English. We can get an idea of its performance by pressing once on the button or by letting the voice, which indicates each time that a new kilometer has been traveled or that 10 minutes have passed. These parameters, like the whole device can be customized.
Its ok, but not insane
Yes, because smart health connected headphones are not worn to look pretty in your ears. It is above all to sweat in music, since in addition it would help give us a little boost during the effort. Nothing catastrophic in terms of sound, it’s perfectly fine for headphones, but nor is it hearing ecstasy. The clear sound is well put forward, the bass is rather discreet without it being disturbing, but bass fans will be disappointed. Only slightly annoying thing, a slight breath that makes the music a sizzling chouia, whether with a volume to kill the eardrums or relatively low.
Autonomy that runs out of steam quickly
Let’s agree, a workout doesn’t last 5 and a half hours, unless you want to be bad for your health or possibly be a cyborg. But that doesn’t stop lamenting the fact of having to recharge the device very often, which is operational again after 2 hours of power, and not being able to count on it in the event of a long journey …
Sport Coach VS Pulse
In itself, no big device revolution, Coach keeps the concept of wireless like Pulse with plugs and protections to adapt according to the shape of the ears. What changes with this new model is the control button on the back of the earpiece left, which allows you to pause or change exercises quickly and easily. The instructions in french also represent a novelty. In terms of sound, Coach and Pulse both benefit from a Dolby audio quality, a bit disappointing, but decent. The Pulse have a Sport Coach’s missing heart sensor and justifies the higher price of the first (€ 199). What mainly changes from one to the other is the content of the application with for the moment more exercises on the new headphones, and the Coach’s slightly better battery life.
Compatibility
iOS and Android, Bluetooh 4.0 and NFC.
Feature reminder
> monitoring of physical activity for all that is cross training, running, cycling, walking, treadmill, skateboarding and skiing.
> Wireless earphones.
> Hands-free kit
Conclusion
The advantages of Jabra Sport Coach
> Nice design with choice of headphones color> Comfort> Application> Control button on the back of the left earpiece
Cons of Jabra Sport Coach
> The absence of a cardiac sensor> Dolby sound that spits out a bit> Autonomy
Jabra Sport Coach is a very good solution for athletes who do not necessarily have time to go to the gym or who prefer individual sport. The application is clear, precise and provides a lot of data so that you can assess your progress on your own. Only downside, the lack of cardio that we could see with the Pulse, a slightly weak autonomy and a sound that is not insane either.
Overview
ConclusionDesign: if they seem rather big, the headphones are not less comfortable, the choice between three different colors is rather niceApplication : very complete and clear, it offers more than 40 exercises, all detailed in French and it is possible to create your own training sheets.Use / Getting started: as for Pulse, its headphones are really intended for a sporting public, the sound quality remains nevertheless correct. No sensor to do cardio, this lack is really a shame. The autonomy is a little better but still runs out of steam quickly.Value for money: for an activity tracker it is necessary to count between 100 and 150 euros, we remain in this range with the Sport Coach which in addition allow to listen to music, all wirelessly.
