Xiaomi Mi Band 5 offers contactless payments outside of China
The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 could be the first fitness tracker for the company to offer contactless payment support outside of China.
In the last two versions of the Mi Band, Xiaomi did not offer contactless payments outside of its health home territory, China; although a TizenHelp report says things could change for the next tracker.
We have no concrete information yet on when the Mi Band 5 will go on sale. However, previous launches were often made in the second quarter; this was the case with the Mi Band 4. What is unconfirmed is the way Xiaomi plans to do it. Will the brand expand its Mi Pay service or will it work with other platforms, like Google Pay.
It is interesting to note that a different approach to contactless payments is not the only new thing that could accompany the launch of the Xiaomi Mi Band 5. According to the same sources, the fitness tracker could also have a larger display .
Instead of the 0.95 inch screen, like the Mi Band 4, it looks like we could have a much bigger screen in the next generation since it would measure 1.2 inches. With this larger screen will also come better resolution. The screen will also be set to be easier to read in direct sunlight than previous devices.
As always, however, it is important to be a little skeptical about any leak. While these are two very plausible potential features for the upcoming Mi Band, there is nothing apart from information from an unknown source to suggest that this is actually happening.
We should have a more official idea of the specifications and potential features of the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 soon enough.
