The Chinese giant is known in France for its smart health connected objects that I regularly present to you on the site (smartphones, watches, headphones, cameras, projectors, televisions).

However, Xiaomi is also used to selling air filtration devices and pollution protection masks. This is the case of the Xiaomi Modelabs Urban Air. This emission mask provides protection against air pollution particles, dust, pollen, mold and other airborne contaminants. This ensures filtration of 92% of the particles and complies with the PM2.5 standard.

The relatively compact mask was designed to cover the nose and mouth. For more comfort, the part in contact with the face is made of silicone and the plastic shell.

The strap is also made of silicone and comes with an adapter to adjust the mask according to the size of your head.

  • The advantage is that the set, mask and strap, can be cleaned.

It comes with 2 dynamic four-layer filters. These filters must be changed regularly to maintain the performance of the mask, as was done with an air purifier.

The Xiaomi Q5S mask has a rechargeable battery simply with a supplied cable to connect to a USB socket. With its 2 filtration speeds, its autonomy is between four and six hours.

If the mask is intended to protect against the pollution which prevails in the big Chinese cities, it integrates many other protections against the germs and the risks of allergy:

  • It filters the methanal or formaldehyde (better known as formalin when dissolved in water), is a highly volatile organic compound (VOC) belonging to the aldehyde family. It is a highly carcinogenic compound originating from the gases emitted by tobacco smoke, candles, incense sticks, copen fireplaces as well as gas cookers, or even oil stoves.
