ZTE Axon – Smartwatch launched in China

The Axon ZTE has finally been unveiled. This elegant smartwatch controlled by gestures will initially only be offered on the Chinese market.

The ZTE Axon smartwatch features a 1.4-inch sapphire-coated circular screen. Inside: a Qualcomm 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.1 and a 300mAh battery.

Specifications rather enticing but with a sacred weak point: its battery. The latter will not last more than a day on a single charge.

Another weak point, the ZTE Axon Watch does not run Android Wear. It is unclear whether this is due to the fact that some Google services are not available in China or whether it is a real choice, a real position, on the part of ZTE. Instead of Android Wear, Tencent's TOS + software which is based on a traditional Android. All this makes me say that there is still little chance that this version of the smartwatch will be sold internationally.

Among the features offered by this smart health watch, you will be able to receive incoming call alerts, messages and follow-up of your activity. Voice and gesture control is also offered. As it was developed with Tencent, it's a safe bet that voice commands are exclusively for China. Few details were given regarding gesture controls on the watch.

Fairly luxurious or at least high-end, I could not give you the materials used since they have not yet been revealed. Measuring 42 mm in diameter and 11.5 mm thick, weighing 49 g, this smartwatch seems more intended for men than for women.

Since ZTE and Tencent are very popular in China, it is a safe bet that this smart health connected watch can gain market share in the Apple Watch. If no price or release date has been given, the Axon watch should be offered at a mid-range price.
