Zwift unveils a smart health connected pedometer for runners

The 2018 Wareable Tech Awards nominee Zwift launched their new RunPod. A more affordable model for accessing their virtual training platform.

The RunPod, which is attached to the laces of your running shoes, synchronizes wirelessly with the dedicated Zwift app. Once on a treadmill and in motion, it will monitoring and disseminate various data; on speed or distance traveled in virtual worlds.

RunPod - Zwift Unveils Connected Pedometer for Runners

The smart health connected pedometer weighs only 13 grams. You will not notice it when you move. It is also powered by a standard CR2032 battery (the type you find inside watches). Thus, you should have a good autonomy before having to change the battery.

From a design perspective, it looks identical to the Milestone Pod; the version to use in the real world. Probably because the company was bought by Zwift this summer. When the platform was launched, the Milestone pod was one of the few pods optimized for Zwift; as well as Stryd's laptop. But things have changed in order to optimize it for the platform; and make it more suitable for indoor running.

Although Zwift was primarily designed for cyclists, the introduction of a running mode this year has been complemented by new features for those who prefer to run on a treadmill over time spent cycling. There are now runner-only routes, more training modes, and a greater variety of virtual places to run for miles.

The Zwift Runpod is available for $ 29.99 on the Zwift website. A much more affordable price than that of Stryd Live. The latter is priced at $ 100 and was launched earlier this year.
